Applications are now open for the Unite! PhD scholarships, under the European University Unite! program. The network University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering (Unite!) includes the participation of the University of Lisbon, the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), Aalto University (Finland), KTH – Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Grenoble Institute of Technology (France), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain), Graz University of Technology (Austria), and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (Poland).

According to the protocol with the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), eight scholarships will be awarded in the following fields: artificial intelligence and robotics; energy – batteries, hydrogen, and smart cities; and Industry 4.0.

Who can apply?

Students who have completed a Master’s degree, reside in Portugal, do not receive any other research scholarships funded by FCT, and do not hold a PhD degree are eligible to apply.

Applications

Applications must be submitted by 20 December 2025 to candidaturas.rh@reitoria.ulisboa.pt. Applicants must include the following documents:

• Curriculum vitae;
• Academic degree certificates, including final grades;
• Record of recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and the corresponding final grade conversion;
• Motivation letter;
• Two distinct letters of recommendation;
• Work Plan to be developed.
