The project EXPlanation and ObseRvation for HumanOid DOmestic RObots (EXPLOR-HODOR), led by Professor Bruno Martins, a faculty member of DEEC and researcher at INESC-ID, recently received a research grant under the 2025 exploratory projects call of the UT Austin Portugal Program, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). It was selected among the 41 proposals submitted to the competition.

The project aims to develop an artificial intelligence system based on LLMs (Large Language Models) for robotic cognition and interaction, specialized in domestic tasks and human collaboration. The research focuses on understanding how LLMs can help robots reason about their surrounding environment, explain their decisions, and enable more natural spoken interaction with humans, going beyond the traditional turn-based dialogue model. These concepts will be tested in realistic domestic environments, including through participation in the RoboCup@Home competition.

The project will run for 12 months.
