Agrupamento de Escolas das Laranjeiras visits DEEC

On February 11, we welcomed 18 students from the Laranjeiras School Group. The afternoon began with a brief presentation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, delivered by Daniela Leonardo. The students had the opportunity to learn about the DEEC’s research areas, as well as some of its active projects such as EV4EU, focused on the integration of electric mobility. Research carried out in the field of health was also highlighted. The students were also introduced to the academic programs offered and the available student groups.

Next, the students visited the Multimedia and Telecommunications and the Energy and Sustainability modules.

In the first module, Professor Custódio Peixeiro spoke about the history of the study of electromagnetic waves, highlighting the contributions of researchers such as Marconi and Maxwell. He also conducted several experiments demonstrating their main properties.

In Energy and Sustainability, Professor João Fernandes also carried out experiments, this time using the law of electromagnetic induction, which is applied in the development of motors and in magnetic levitation train systems.

The visit concluded with a group photo at the entrance of the North Tower.
