Escola Secundária da Portela takes part in electromagnetic wave experiments

On February 9, we welcomed a visit from 11th-grade students from Escola Secundária da Portela. The morning began with a brief presentation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, delivered by Professor Sónia Pinto. During the session, students learned more about the research and professional areas of engineers in this field, as well as some of the projects involving faculty members of the department. The professor also presented the academic programs and the extracurricular activities available.
Next, the students visited the Energy and Sustainability module and the Multimedia and Telecommunications module.

In the first module, Professor João Fernandes carried out several experiments on electromagnetic induction, explaining to the students how, in practice, the systems used in magnetic levitation trains and at CERN work.

In the Multimedia and Telecommunications module, Professor Carlos Fernandes invited the students to explore the different properties of electromagnetic waves through demonstrations using music. The professor also discussed some current projects and showed the students the anechoic chamber.
The visit ended with a group photograph on the staircase of the north tower.
