Escola Secundária da Portela came to learn about robotics

On February 6, 25 11th-grade students from Escola da Portela visited the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The visit began with a presentation of the department, delivered by Professor Pedro Tomás, who introduced the research and intervention areas of electrical and computer engineering, the academic programs on offer, and some of the available extracurricular activities.

Afterwards, the students visited the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module and the Energy and Sustainability module.

In the first module, Professor Alberto Vale addressed the challenges of artificial intelligence and robotics over the years, highlighting some of the current research projects.

In Energy and Sustainability, the students explored some applications of electromagnetic induction and the use of superconducting materials, which can be used, for example, in high-speed trains that rely on magnetic levitation.
