Escola Secundária José Cardoso Pires came to learn about the Internet of Things

On the 27th, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering welcomed a visit from students of Escola Secundária José Cardoso Pires, part of the Agrupamento de Escolas General Humberto Delgado. The afternoon began with a brief presentation of the department by Daniela Leonardo, who introduced the research areas and some of the projects developed by faculty and students in electrical and computer engineering, electronic engineering, aerospace engineering, and telecommunications and informatics engineering.

Next, the students took part in two modules: Networks and Computers, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

In the first module, Professor Paulo Pereira conducted two demonstrations showcasing how the Internet of Things works, including communication between sensors, actuators, and mobile applications, as well as the systems used in automatic telephone services.

In the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module, students were introduced to Lola, one of the latest projects developed at the Institute for Systems and Robotics. This robot is capable of moving through remote control.

The visit concluded with a group photo on the north tower staircase and an open invitation for future visits to the Department.
