Supervisors

Responsibilities
The members of the scientific supervision team have the following responsibilities:
- to define the study plan for the student;
- to submit to PDEEC’s Scientific Commission, within 12 months after student’s enrolment, the proposal for CAT members (see below);
- to schedule the seminar for the public presentation of the developed research work and of the thesis proposal to CAT;
- to ensure regular monitoring of the student's scientific progress;
- to guarantee the resources necessary for carrying out the research;
- to encourage the student's integration into the research team and Técnico’s community;
- to encourage the students' participation in national and international scientific meetings, to disseminate the obtained results and to promote the interaction with the scientific community and with society;
- to supervise the student until the delivery of the thesis;
- to propose to PDEEC’s Scientific Commission the composition of the Jury, upon the delivery of the preliminary version of thesis (see below);
- to have one element in the Jury.
Guidelines for Thesis Monitoring Committee (CAT)
1. Regulation
CAT should follow the General Regulation for Ph.Ds. in Instituto Superior Técnico, https://posgraduacao.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/files/sites/29/regulamento-geral-dos-doutoramentos-do-instituto-superior-tecnico_19maio2025.pdf.
2. Proposal
The Supervisor should send the CAT proposal:
- within 12 months after student’s enrolment,
- formed by the following documents:
- Proposal for CAT composition, using the template for PDEEC (PDEEC_CAT-Proposta-Constituicao.docx),
- Updated workplan,
- To PDEEC’s Coordinator, via PDEEC’s Secretariat (pdeec@deec.tecnico.ulisboa.pt).
3. Presentation
The Chairperson of CAT should schedule the student’s presentation up to 6 months after the submission of the proposal by the Supervisor, and send the information (location and date/hour) to PDEEC’s Secretariat (pdeec@deec.tecnico.ulisboa.pt), at least, 2 weeks in advance.
4. Recommendation
The Chairperson of CAT should elaborate the Recommendation in agreement with the all CAT members, using PDEEC’s template (PDEEC_CAT-Recomendacao.docx), and send it within 1 month after the student’s presentation, to PDEEC’s Coordinator, via PDEEC’s Secretariat (pdeec@deec.tecnico.ulisboa.pt).
Guidelines for Jury Proposal:
1. Regulation
The Jury composition should follow the General Regulation for Ph.Ds. in Instituto Superior Técnico, https://posgraduacao.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/files/sites/29/regulamento-geral-dos-doutoramentos-do-instituto-superior-tecnico_19maio2025.pdf.
2. Clarification
The jury composition should take into account that:
- The members of the Jury belonging to companies are considered “specialists”, not being account for “professors and researchers with a Ph.D. from other national or foreign higher education or research institutions not belonging to the University of Lisbon”.
3. Proposal
The Supervisor should send the Jury proposal:
- upon the delivery of the preliminary version of the thesis by the student;
- using the template for PDEEC (PDEEC_Juri-Proposta-Constituicao.docx),
- to PDEEC’s Coordinator, via PDEEC’s Secretariat (pdeec@deec.tecnico.ulisboa.pt).
