Escola Profissional de Setúbal visits the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
On October 23, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) welcomed a visit from 25 students from the Setúbal Professional School.
The visit began with a presentation of DEEC, led by Professor Sónia Pinto. The students had the opportunity to learn about the courses, the areas of intervention of the Department, the student groups, and some related data, as well as to clarify any doubts.
The students observed some of the work developed by the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR) and the Institute of Telecommunications (IT). In the first module, they participated in a simulation where they were welcomed at a party by a humanoid robot, capable of moving around and introducing the guests to the host. Through the installed camera and microphone, the robot also demonstrated the ability to estimate the age of the participants.
In the second part of the visit, the students were welcomed in the photonics laboratory of the IT, where they learned about communication based on quantum photonics, as well as the risks associated with the development of quantum computers.
The students concluded the visit with a positive assessment and an invitation to visit the DEEC again.
