DEEC is structured in 5 Scientific Areas:

Scientific Area of Computers

Coordinator: Professor Rui Valadas

Scientific Area of Electronics

Coordinator: Professor Marcelino Bicho dos Santos

"It has a strongly multidisciplinary profile, offering foundational courses in devices and electronic circuits, as well as advanced courses in microelectronics, computer electronics, power electronics, radiofrequency, digital signal processing, and optoelectronics."

Scientific Area of Energy

Coordinator: Professor Pedro dos Santos Carvalho

"It offers the Técnico community a set of human and laboratory resources specifically aimed at equipping students in fields related to Electrical and Computer Engineering with the critical skills needed to address the main challenges of the energy transition. These challenges range from the planning and operation of systems with high renewable penetration to the design of electronic and electromechanical devices for the production, storage, and use of energy."

Scientific Area of Systems, Decision and Control

Coordinator: Professor André Martins

Scientific Area of Telecommunications

Coordinator: Professor Mário Silveirinha

"From communication and network technologies, covering wireless systems, fiber optics, mobile networks, satellite communications, quantum communications, signal processing, and Artificial Intelligence techniques to optimize the efficiency and security of communications. Our mission is to equip students with theoretical and practical skills that address the current challenges of the sector, such as the Internet of Things, 5G, and next-generation communications. This knowledge provides future engineers with a solid foundation to innovate and contribute to the advancement of telecommunications."
