St. Peter's International School Visits the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

No dia 28 de fevOn February 28, we welcomed over 50 students from St. Peter's International School. The students had the opportunity to learn about the courses and activities offered by the department, as well as the research areas of the faculty. The DEEC presentation was made by Professor Sónia Pinto, who discussed some of the ways in which researchers have the ability to make a difference. In the field of health, she highlighted the work of Catarina Barata, a faculty member at DEEC and a researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, whose goal is to contribute to the rapid diagnosis of melanomas.

After the department presentation, the students visited the Energy and Sustainability and Multimedia and Telecommunications modules.

The first module was presented by Professor João Fernandes, who conducted experiments with superconductors and electromagnetic induction mechanisms, demonstrating some of the methods used in magnetic levitation trains.

In the second module, the students deepened their knowledge of the history and ways of propagation of electromagnetic waves. In addition to discussing the contributions of scientists such as Maxwell, Hertz, and Marconi, Professor Custódio Peixeiro also showed the students how to transmit an SOS message in Morse code.
The visit ended with a photo on the staircase, at the entrance to the North Tower.
The Department of Electrical Engineering invites students and professors to visit the various modules available.
