Professor Isabel Trancoso elected President of ISCA

DEEC/IST congratulates Professor Isabel Trancoso, professor at DEEC/IST and researcher at INESC-ID, for being elected president of ISCA. ISCA (International Speech Communication Association) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the technologies and sciences of speech communication, both in academic and industrial areas, covering all aspects: acoustics, phonetics, phonology, linguistics, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, signal processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, etc.

ISCA annually organizes multiple workshops and conferences, highlighting the series of annual Interspeech conferences that bring together around 1200 participants annually. The 2005 edition took place in Lisbon. It was initially created as a European association (ESCA) in 1988, becoming international in 1999. ISCA had as its first president Prof. Sadaoki Furui from Tokyo Institute of Technology, followed by Prof. Julia Hirschberg from Columbia University who will be replaced by Prof. Isabel Trancoso.

This distinction honors DEEC/IST and INESC-ID, being another indication of the great quality of the work developed by our professors and researchers.
