PhD Open Days 2024 return in November
On November 4th and 5th, the Técnico Innovation Center will host the 10th edition of the PhD Open Days. This event fosters connections between hundreds of doctoral students, alumni and professionals from various scientific fields, providing an opportunity to showcase their research to the academic community. It will feature the presence of Professor Mário Figueiredo, Professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira, and alumnus Jorge Marques Silva, an engineer in control systems applications at Amp X.
The edition start with a welcome for new doctoral students by Rogério Colaço, president of IST, Miguel Ayala Botto, vice-president of the Scientific Council, and Luís Ferreira, rector of the University of Lisbon, along with the launch of the Técnico Doctoral School. In the afternoon, the Técnico Innovation Summit will take place, a public exhibition highlighting the main activities and scientific results of the Mobilizing Agendas of the PRR, involving IST researchers. During this exhibition, doctoral students will have the opportunity to participate in interviews with various companies, gaining insights into social challenges, different work cultures, and potential career opportunities.
On the 5th, Professors Mário Figueiredo from DEEC, Arlindo Oliveira, and Chrysoula Zerva will discuss the perspectives, opportunities, and precautions associated with artificial intelligence. In the same day, Jorge Marques Silva, an alumnus in electrical and computer engineering with a PhD in sustainable energy systems, will participate in the conversation "Every Step Matters: Stories from the PhD Journey," alongside other IST alumni. Following this, there will be a pitch competition, judged by Professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira.
Throughout the two days, a permanent exhibition showcasing the latest research conducted by doctoral students will be on display. The event will also include a presentation from the National Council for Science, Technology and Innovation (CNCTI) and a segment on mental health with comedian António Raminhos, concluding with a closing ceremony at the end of the day.
