The Professor Luís Vidigal Award opens applications for the 24th edition

The Professor Luís Vidigal Award was established by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) in 2000, in honor of Professor Luís Manuel Vidigal's memory. It aims to annually award a master's dissertation that fits within the scientific areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Computers, and that, in the jury's view, demonstrates the best scientific, innovative, and quality characteristics. Applications are open to theses completed in the last academic year, and candidates must have their final grade registered in the administration office by the last day of applications (by 6 PM).
The winning work will be awarded a prize of 2,500 euros.
Is only one work chosen as the winner?
More than one work may be chosen, depending on its scientific and technological merit and degree of innovation. In the 2023 edition, two students were awarded: Inês Alves Pereira, with the thesis "Parallelization of the Kaczmarz Algorithm", and Pedro Gonçalo da Silva Faria, with "Scalable Coil Sensors Readout for Eddy Current Testing Array Probes."
How to apply?
Candidates must submit the application form available here, along with the following documents:
- Brief resume;
- Copy of an executive summary of the thesis outlining essential points, work area, objectives, main contributions, methodology and technologies used or developed, conclusions, etc.;
- Copy of the Dissertation;
- Proof of grade for the thesis being submitted;
- Copies of all scientific publications resulting from the work, with explicit indication of the date and place of publication;
- Reviews (optional).
The documents should be compiled into a single file (zip, rar or other) and uploaded to this link, after authentication with Técnico credentials.
When will the results be announced?
The evaluation of the works will take place throughout February, and the results will be posted in March.
