1st Prize Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2013

MEEC alumnus André Santiago, supervised by professors Carlos Fernandes, professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Jorge Costa (ISCTE/IT), won the 1st prize of the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2013 in the Master's Thesis category with the dissertation “Broadband UHF RFID Passive Tag Antenna for Near-Body Operation”, carried out in IT.

André Santiago has developed an innovative tag for radio frequency identification systems (RFID tag) whose main characteristics are the possibility of operating in the vicinity of surfaces that are usually problematic for technology, worldwide interoperability, low cost and high reading range.
