Electrical and Computer Engineering student receives Eng. Fernando Ivo Gonçalves Award

The winner of Eng. Fernando Ivo Gonçalves Award, 2024 edition, was the student Samuel Silva Carvalho, whose academic performance in the Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Main Area of ​​Energy, was recognized.

The award was established by the family of Engineer Ivo Gonçalves, and was presented by his son, Dr. Nuno Gonçalves, in a ceremony that took place on July 25th, in the meeting room of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC).

Rogério Colaço, president of Técnico, highlighted that he “always makes a point of being present at the delivery of [this] award”, as he considers that “the family found a very positive way of maintaining the connection with Técnico and celebrating the professional trajectory of the engineer."

Também presente na 9.ª edição do prémio esteve o responsável pela unidade curricular de Fundamentos de Energia Elétrica, Pedro Carvalho. O docente aproveitou a ocasião para destacar o percurso “notável” de Fernando Ivo Gonçalves, antigo docente do Técnico, na área da energia e agradecer à família do homenageado “ter cumprido o desejo de criar um prémio na área em que foi excelso”.

Also present at the 9th edition of the award was the professor responsible for the Fundamentals of Electrical Power Systems course, Pedro Carvalho. The professor took the opportunity to highlight the “remarkable” trajectory of Fernando Ivo Gonçalves, former professor at Técnico, in the area of ​​energy and thank the family “for fulfilling their desire to create an award in the area in which he excelled”.

DEEC president, José Santos-Victor, highlighted how merit awards “are important for the students and the department” he heads. The winning student, in turn, was grateful for the prize worth 3 thousand euros and the opportunity to have his academic trajectory recognized.
