Técnico and Santander Foundation recognize Técnico students

On January 15th, several student groups were recognized by the Santander Foundation at a ceremony held at the Técnico Innovation Center. The foundation distinguished 27 projects, 9 of which involved students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering:

  • NEECIST – JEEC 25;
  • IEEE IST Student Branch – EmpowHER;
  • HackerSchool – HackLab;
  • AeroTéc – ATLAS – Systems & Aeronautics;
  • FST Lisboa – Inversores;
  • PSEM – Construção GP25;
  • TFC – TFC 0.2 – Construction of a sustainable city vehicle;
  • TLMoto – TLM05e Battery Pack;
  • TSB – Development of SM02.1.

The event included two discussion panels and the symbolic presentation of awards to the winners. Scholarships were also given to students with socioeconomic needs, students wishing to study abroad, sabbatical licenses for early-career professors and researchers, and general support for student groups.

Isabel Dias, Vice President for Financial Management at Técnico, highlighted the growing impact of the collaboration with Santander Foundation: “In recent years, we’ve seen an increase in the number of groups and ideas. This year, we received about 60 applications for the CA2ECTécnico, reflecting a partnership that has become more consolidated and impactful for our community." Inês Oom de Sousa, President of the Santander Foundation, also affirmed: “For us, it is a great honor to support education, entrepreneurship, and innovation here at Técnico, where the best of the country is developed.”

On behalf of the Student Association of Instituto Superior Técnico (AEIST), João Encarnação thanked the students and the School, emphasizing the diversity of recognized projects and highlighting that Técnico is the institution with the most extracurricular activities in Portugal.
