The Energy Transition is electric

Opinion article by Professor Pedro Carvalho, in Jornal i

"The Energy Transition is electric", is the title of an opinion article by Pedro Carvalho, Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, published in Jornal i, on August 1st.

According to the author, "The technological challenges of the future, more than energetic, are electrical. It is in the electrical infrastructure that the challenge of the coming decades will focus and not in energy resources. It is the electrical grid that will impose systemic restrictions more demanding on decarbonization."

To face these challenges "it is necessary to attract talent to engineering and explain to young people interested in the decarbonization of society that it is as Electrical Engineers - in the design of networks and interface systems with renewable resources, as well as in the design of intelligent systems for the control and operation of the grid - that they can better contribute to the success of the energy transition."
