Escola Secundária José Saramago came to learn about robots

Yesterday, we received a visit from the students of the Escola Secundária José Saramago. The students and teachers got to know the courses, extracurricular activities, and some of the initiatives promoted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC).

During the initial presentation, made by Professor Sónia Pinto, the students also had the opportunity to learn more about some of the current research conducted by DEEC faculty, which intersect with areas such as health and artificial intelligence.

Next, they visited the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module, promoted in collaboration with the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR). The initial presentation was given by Bárbara Teixeira.

In this module, the students learned a bit about the various components of robots, including elements like sensors and actuators. They also interacted with a robot capable of greeting guests at a party and guiding them to the host, navigating the space independently.

The visit ended with the usual photograph at the entrance of the north tower.

The DEEC invites students and teachers to visit the different available modules.
