Margarida Cavaleiro wins “Women in Energy MSc” scholarship

On October 14, Margarida Cavaleiro, a master's student in Energy Engineering and Management, received one of the scholarships supported by TagEnergy.. The ceremony took place in the Meeting Room of the Central Pavilion on the Alameda campus.

Instituto Superior Técnico and TagEnergy celebrated the second edition of the “Women in Energy MSc” Scholarships, a program aimed at financially supporting and encouraging female participation in the fields of Energy and Engineering. This initiative, aligned with promoting gender equality in the tech sector, aims to empower students and open doors for greater female representation in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Maria Pedrosa, one of the winners from the previous year, noted, “These scholarships are very important because previously many were awarded to men. This program makes a difference.”

The ceremony was also attended by the president of Instituto Superior Técnico. Rogério Colaço took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of this program, stating that “the TagEnergy scholarships are very encouraging support” for the school's female students.

These measures fall under two strategic lines: support for students and the promotion of gender equity. (…) Despite 52% of the Portuguese population being female, this proportion is not reflected in various prominent positions in the tech sector, something that Técnico actively seeks to combat with initiatives like this.

A scholarship was also awarded to Inês Dias, a Mechanical Engineering student.

Monica Andreu, Chief Technology Officer of the company, emphasized that “being a woman in the energy sector is a challenge.” She also mentioned the need to overcome barriers and prejudices in a sector still dominated by men. Nonetheless, she reaffirmed TagEnergy's commitment to creating opportunities for more women to establish themselves in this field, contributing to a more inclusive and balanced industry.
