Escola Profissional Val do Rio learns about the "Internet of Things"
On the past 11th, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering welcomed more than 30 students from the Escola Profissional Val do Rio, from Oeiras. The visit began with a presentation of the department by Professor Pedro Tomás.
During the visit, the students explored the modules of Electronic Systems and Networks and Computers, where they had the opportunity to ask questions to the department's professors.
The presentation of the first module was also given by Professor Pedro Tomás. The students learned about a mechanism currently under study, which aims to restore vision to blind people by connecting electronic systems to the brain.
The Networks and Computers module was presented by Professors António Grilo (pictured on the left) and Paulo Pereira, where the topic "Internet of Things" was discussed. The students observed how an intruder is detected by a sensor, triggering a corresponding sound signal.
Throughout the visit, the students showed great interest, interacting with the responsible faculty members.
The visit ended with a group photo taken at the entrance of the building and an invitation for more visits to the DEEC.
