Escola Secundária de Vila Nova de Paiva came to learn about modulation in telecommunications

On April 23rd, we welcomed students from Escola Secundária de Vila Nova de Paiva. The visit began with a presentation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) by Professor João Fernandes, who introduced the students to the main areas of intervention, their practical applications, the available degree programs, the general curriculum structure, and the student groups that involve DEEC students.

After the presentation, the students visited the Multimedia and Telecommunications module and the Networks and Computers module.

In the first module, Professor Fernando Nunes discussed the advantages of digital communications and explained how signal modulation works through frequency, including a demonstration in the laboratory environment.

In the Networks and Computers module, Professor Paulo Pereira demonstrated how the Internet of Things works by connecting a device with a sensor to an application. The system emitted a sound signal upon detecting the presence of objects nearby.

The visit ended with a photo at the entrance of the building and an invitation for future visits to DEEC.
