Escola Secundária Sebastião e Silva participates in superconductor experiments

On the past 9th, the students visited two of the modules offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The visit began with a presentation by Professor João Fernandes, where the students learned about the available courses and scientific areas.

The students participated in the Energy and Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics modules.

The first module was also presented by Professor João Fernandes. The students observed how superconductors, cooled to below -200ºC, levitate stably above magnets, a phenomenon used, for example, in high-speed magnetic levitation trains.

The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module was presented by Bárbara Teixeira, from Institute of Systems and Robotics, along with some members of the SocRob@Home team. The students learned some of the concepts in the field, necessary for the operation of robots.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites students and professors to explore the available modules.
