Escola Secundária António Damásio came to meet Bob

On April 22nd, we welcomed students from António Damásio Secondary School. The afternoon began with a presentation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC), given by Professor João Fernandes. The students learned more about the department’s research areas, the available degree programs and their general curricular structure, as well as some extracurricular activities that can complement their practical knowledge.

After the presentation, the students visited the Networks and Computers and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics modules.

In the first module, Professor Paulo Pereira presented projects developed by students within the scope of Network Architecture. Through two demonstrations, he explained how the Internet of Things works and how we can control devices over the internet, such as security sensors.

Já em Inteligência Artificial e Robótica, aprenderam sobre In the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module, they learned about some key concepts in the field and had the opportunity to interact with the robot Bob, which, among its features, can recognize specific movements, such as detecting the person waving inside a room.

The visit ended with a group photo on the staircase at the entrance of the North Tower and an invitation for future visits to DEEC.
