Escola Secundária D. Pedro V visited the Avionics Laboratory

On the 22nd, we welcomed students from D. Pedro V Secondary School in Lisbon. The students came to learn about the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC). The visit began with a presentation about the DEEC by Professor Sónia Pinto, who spoke briefly about the department’s research areas as well as the associated academic programs. She also explained the curricular structure of the programs and highlighted the extracurricular activities students can take part in — from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Group to building competition vehicles, such as Técnico Lisboa's Formula Student car.
After the presentation, the students visited the Multimedia and Telecommunications module, and the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module.

In the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics area, the students met the SocRob@Home team, which competes with the robot Bob. This robot is designed to recognize people, estimate their age, and guide them through a space during a simulated social event.

In the Multimedia and Telecommunications section, the students learned about avionics, particularly regarding aircraft control systems. They also had the opportunity to try out the flight simulator.
The morning concluded with a group photo at the entrance of the North Tower and an invitation for more visits to the DEEC.
