Alumni of Electrical Engineering elected members of the Engineering Academy

In December, Carlos Medeiros Abreu and João Saraiva Torres, both alumni of the Electrical Engineering Bachelor's degree, participated in the Welcome Ceremony for the 32 New Members of the Engineering Academy, receiving their insignias and membership diplomas. The ceremony also included the integration of other alumni from Técnico, including Rogério Colaço, the current president.
Carlos Abreu, a graduate of 1982, is a member of the Board of Directors of Secil and the Board of Directors of UTIS, with a career as a process engineer and project engineer.
João Torres, a graduate of 1979, is currently the General Director of EDP and Advisor to the Board of Directors, President of the Portuguese Association of Energy, Director of ELECPOR, the Portuguese Association of Electric Sector Companies, and a Member of the Energy Council of CIP – the Confederation of Portuguese Business.
Members of the Engineering Academy are required to have made a recognized contribution in the field of engineering, "in its technical-scientific depth and/or in its economic and social impact." The chosen individuals may also have "demonstrated undeniable development potential in any area of engineering," according to the Regulation for Membership Admission.
