Manuela Veloso wins Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo award

Manuela Veloso was honored with Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo award in “role model” category for her “remarkable scientific contributions, strong international presence, close link to Portugal and Instituto Superior Técnico, since her graduation in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and as professor at Carnegie Mellon university and Head JPMorgan AI Research”.

Mariana Araújo won the award in “young alumni” category for her “outstanding academic achievements that culminated in her master’s thesis in Engineering Physics titled “Phenomenology of a single right- handed neutrino seesaw model”, with a remarkable final grade:19”.

The jury headed by professor Arlindo Oliveira, is composed of professors Luís Oliveira e Silva, Raquel Aires de Barros, Helena Geirinhas Ramos, Ana Paiva, Ana Póvoa, Isabel Sá Correia, João Ramôa Ribeiro, Maria da Graça Carvalho, Isabel Vaz and José Nuno Canôngia Lopes.

Técnico created this award to promote Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo’s outstanding contribution as engineer, alumna and national leader with a decisive role and impact on Portuguese society.
