During the Masters@DEEC event, Rafael Rodrigues received the Eng. Ivo Gonçalves Merit Award, which recognizes the student with the best academic performance in the Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a specialization in Energy.

The ceremony began with an introduction to the award and its connection to Engineer Ivo Gonçalves, presented by Professor Pedro Carvalho, coordinator of the Energy scientific area. The professional career of Fernando Ivo Gonçalves (1923–2012) focused on the specialization in electrical energy issues, particularly in hydraulic and thermal production planning and high-voltage network operation. He was both a student and professor at Técnico. He also served as Director of the National Load Dispatcher, President of the Portuguese Committee for International Interconnection, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDP.

Next, the professor presented the list of previous award winners since the 2015/16 academic year, sharing highlights of their professional journeys.

The ceremony concluded with the prize being awarded in the presence of Dr. Nuno Ivo Gonçalves, the engineer’s son, and Professor Nuno Horta, President of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
