António Cruz Serra receives the title of Professor Emeritus from the University of Lisbon

António Cruz Serra, former professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will be awarded the title of Professor Emeritus by the University of Lisbon on February 12, 2025, at 5:00 PM, at the Pavilhão de Portugal.
Biography:
António Cruz Serra was born in Coimbra in 1956 and has been an executive director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation since May 12, 2022. He served as a full professor in the Electronics field at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, where he taught from 1978 to 2022.
He was Rector of the University of Lisbon (2013-2021), Rector of the Technical University of Lisbon (2012-2013), President of Instituto Superior Técnico (2009-2012), and held several other significant academic and administrative roles. He also chaired the International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) from 2009 to 2012 and served on numerous other committees and advisory boards.
António Cruz Serra has a distinguished research background, with positions at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science, the Center for Electrotechnical Research at the Technical University of Lisbon, and the Institute of Telecommunications. He has been a member of evaluation panels for scientific research projects, particularly in the field of Electronic Instrumentation.
He holds a PhD (1992) and Master's degree (1985) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (1978).
He has authored over two hundred scientific publications.
