"An open conversation about the future of cities and living spaces, where Artificial Intelligence is redefining the way we live, move, and care for our surroundings.

This panel will explore how smart territories and connected homes are emerging. Real-life examples and developing technologies will be discussed, including:

• AI-powered traffic management, with adaptive traffic lights and public transport systems that respond to real-time demand, traffic, and pollution conditions;
• Smart waste collection and efficient energy and water management in public spaces, optimized in real time;
• Intelligent urban systems that automatically detect anomalies and promote citizen participation in city maintenance;
• Smart buildings, with AI managing lighting, temperature, and security in homes, condominiums, and neighborhoods, promoting comfort, sustainability, and autonomy.

The session will feature João Paulo Costeira (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS), Ernesto Morgado (SYSCOG), Paulo Calçada (Porto Digital), among other speakers to be confirmed, and will be moderated by Paulo Ferrão (Instituto Superior Técnico and IN+/LARSyS).

The talks in the series “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”, a partnership between Instituto Superior Técnico and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa), highlight successful collaborations between the scientific community and industry, focused on solving real-world problems or developing innovative solutions that emerged or were launched from Portugal. Based on concrete examples available in the country, researchers from Técnico and its Research Units will present and discuss a lesser-known but highly relevant side of AI in our daily lives.

The talks will take place in the space of the “Art with Science” exhibition by Leonel Moura, featuring artworks created using robotics and AI.
