Industry of the Future: Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Services Talk Series – “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”

In a rapidly changing world where technology is redefining how we live, produce, and interact with our environment, this panel invites experts and enthusiasts to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and emerging technologies in building a more efficient, sustainable, and human-centered industry.

We will address the innovations that are revolutionizing factories and services:

  • Service robots that interact naturally with humans at home, in hospitals, and in offices;
  • Surveillance, search and rescue robots;
  • Collaborative robots and adaptive assembly lines working side by side with humans in production;
  • Intelligent design with AI, capable of creating more effective prototypes and more eco-friendly products;
  • Predictive maintenance, which anticipates failures and prevents costly downtime;
  • Optimization of inventory and logistics, with intelligent route planning and real-time tracking — taking into account weather, costs, and carbon footprint;
  • The growing impact of 3D printing and cyber-physical systems in the context of Industry 4.0.

The session will feature Rodrigo Ventura (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS), Christine Marconcin (Critical Techworks), among other speakers to be confirmed, and will be moderated by José Santos-Victor (Instituto Superior Técnico and ISR-Lisboa/LARSyS).

The talks are part of the series “Artificial Intelligence in Interaction with the Physical World”, a partnership between Instituto Superior Técnico and the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR-Lisboa). These sessions will highlight successful collaborations between the scientific community and industry, focused on solving real-world problems or launching innovative solutions that have emerged or were developed in Portugal. Drawing from concrete cases available in the country, researchers from Técnico and its Research Units will present and discuss a lesser-known but highly relevant side of AI — one that has direct implications for our daily lives.

The talks will take place in the exhibition space of “Art with Science”, by Leonel Moura, which features artworks developed using robotics and AI.
