The 1st phase of applications to higher education runs until August 4

Applications are now open for the National Access Competition to Higher Education (CNAES).

Applications must be submitted through the online platform available on the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) website. Applicants must authenticate using either their Citizen Card or Digital Mobile Key (CMD).

Last year, the Bachelor’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering offered a total of 223 spots, 3 of which were reserved for candidates applying through Special Admission Schemes. The minimum admission score for the last placed student in the 1st phase was 140.0.
Aerospace Engineering had 139 spots (4 reserved), with a minimum admission score of 187.3.
Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering offered 56 spots (1 reserved), with a minimum score of 124.3.
Electronic Engineering opened 31 spots (1 reserved), with the last admitted student scoring 120.0.

The results of the first phase will be released on August 24, and registration and enrollment will take place from August 25 to 28. The Técnico’s Welcome Week for new students will be held from September 1 to 3.

If admitted to Instituto Superior Técnico, the CMD – which can be requested via the official government authentication portal – will also be necessary for enrollment. As activation may take several weeks, applicants are encouraged to request it well in advance of the CNAES results date.

While the CNAES is the most common way to access a Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s degree, there are also alternative admission routes for applicants over 23 years old, holders of medium or higher education degrees, and those applying via institution/degree change schemes, each with their own deadlines.
