André Melão, estudante de Engenharia de Telecomunicações e Informática, vence Prémio de Palco no Festival Internacional de Magia “Bairrada Mágica”

On April 14, André Melão, a student of Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, won 1st Stage Prize at the International Magic Festival “Bairrada Mágica”. This event was part of the 10th Portuguese Congress of Illusionism, held in Oliveira do Bairro, and featured performances by several national illusionists.

His first contact with illusionism came when he was just 7 years old, when he received his first magic kit. Three years later, after watching a performance that "left him fascinated", his interest grew and never stopped. “I decided to enter and present my stage routine (Im)possible Love, which I had been preparing over several years,” says André Melão.

It was an enormous surprise and, at the same time, a validation of the effort and dedication I’ve put into this art.

Currently a master’s student, André balances his performances with his academic studies. He is focused on developing skills in cybersecurity, emphasizing that—just like illusionism—this field also deals with mysteries, strategy, and revelations. It also requires logical reasoning, attention to detail, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. “The way I think and structure a magic effect has many parallels with how I approach technical challenges,” he highlights.

When asked about the future, he sees both technology and magic as paths that can coexist. “I want to stay connected to technology and cybersecurity, but magic will always be a part of my life—whether as a profession or as a form of expression,” he adds.
