The Professor Luís Vidigal Award, established by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) in 2000 in honor of the memory of Professor Luís Manuel Vidigal, was awarded ex-aqueo to two works developed by students of the Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MEEC), and supervised by professors from DEEC.

The Award Jury, chaired by Prof. Carlos Salema, recently evaluated the competing works and, considering their scientific and technological merit as well as their degree of innovation, decided to award ex-aqueo the Prof. Luís Vidigal Award, 2019 Edition, to the following works:

"Design and Application of Thrust Manoeuvres in a Constrained Spacecraft Rendezvous Context Using Optimal Control Techniques", by Afonso Duarte Amaral Cardoso Botelho, supervised by Prof. João Miranda Lemos from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) at Instituto Superior Técnico and by Eng. Baltazar Parreira from Deimos Engenharia.

"Enhancing a Pairs Trading strategy with the application of Machine Learning", by Simão Nava de Moraes Sarmento, supervised by Prof. Nuno Horta, from DEEC.

This year, the award ceremony will take place, as usual, during the opening of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Days (JEEC), which will be held next week at Técnico. The opening of the JEEC will take place next Monday, March 9th, at the JEEC Auditorium (tent in front of the Central Pavilion) at Instituto Superior Técnico, Alameda campus, at 2 p.m., including the award ceremony.
