Técnico inaugurates new room for PhD students

On September 29, Técnico inaugurated a new room for the exclusive use of PhD students enrolled in its doctoral programs, located on the 1st floor of the Central Pavilion at the Alameda campus. The initiative is part of the Doctoral School, which, as its director Leonel Sousa stated, "has been working to enhance the quality, visibility, and internationalization of Técnico’s doctoral programs."
One of the main goals of the Doctoral School is to create the conditions for PhD students to form a strong and active community within Técnico (...). If I had to name this space, it would be ‘the home of Técnico’s PhD students.’ It’s yours — use it and take care of it.

Técnico President Rogério Colaço highlighted the institution’s evolving profile. “For many years, Técnico was known for training engineers,” but today, “over 10% of students are enrolled in PhD programs,” with “more than 100 thesis defenses taking place every year.” He also emphasized that the new room aims to counter the tendency of doing PhDs in isolated clusters, instead offering a shared space for students from different fields. “Let this inauguration symbolically mark the beginning of a new journey,” he wished.
PhD students will soon be contacted by the Doctoral School with detailed information about how to access the room and the rules for its use. The space will be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and access will be granted through programmed electronic cards for currently enrolled and regularized PhD students.
