On July 18, student André Luiz Nunes de Souza successfully defended his thesis entitled “Power Optimization and Techno-Economic Aspects of Multiband Optical Networks”, under the supervision of Professor João José de Oliveira Pires, faculty member at Técnico. He was awarded the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. The defense took place in the meeting room of the central pavilion, on the Alameda campus.

The jury was chaired by Dr. Luís Manuel de Jesus Sousa Correia, full professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Técnico, and composed of Dr. Adolfo da Visitação Tregeira Cartaxo, Full Professor at the School of Technologies and Architecture of ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon; Dr. Paulo Sérgio de Brito André, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon; Dr. Maria do Carmo Raposo de Medeiros, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra; and Dr. João José de Oliveira Pires, Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon.
