Agrupamento de Escolas Rainha D. Leonor visits the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

On November 4th, students from the Rainha D. Leonor School Group visited the DEEC.
The visit began with Professor Sónia Pinto, who introduced the department’s main scientific areas, undergraduate and master’s programs, and some of the companies founded by DEEC alumni.

Afterwards, the students explored the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module and the Networks and Computers module.

In the first module, they had the opportunity to meet members of the SocRob team, which participates annually in international robotics competitions. They also interacted with Bob, a robot that simulates welcoming guests at a party, and saw Lola (on the left), which is remotely controlled.

In the Networks and Computers module, they learned about the Internet of Things and observed two demonstrations. During the session, António Grilo showed how the sensors in security alarm systems work, while Paulo Pereira explained the systems used in automated phone messaging.

The visit ended with a group photo at the entrance of the North Tower.
