Escola Básica e Secundária Joaquim Inácio da Cruz Sobral came to learn about Networks and Computers
On the past 31st, we received a visit from more than 40 students from the Joaquim Inácio da Cruz Sobral Basic and Secondary School. The students came to learn about the courses, including undergraduate and master's degrees, offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as the student groups they might join. The DEEC presentation was given by Professor Sónia Pinto.
Next, they visited the modules on Multimedia and Telecommunications and Networks and Computers.
In the first module, the students got to know the Quantum Photonics Laboratory of the Institute of Telecommunications, where researchers are currently working on solutions that contribute to the security of internet users through quantum communication.
In the second part of the visit, they learned more about the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), where various devices, such as equipment for object detection used in security alarm systems, are connected to the network and can be controlled remotely by the user, for example, through a mobile application.
The visit concluded with the usual photo on the stairs of the North Tower and an invitation for more visits to the DEEC.
