Escola Profissional de Artes, Tecnologias e Desporto visits DEEC

On the 19th, the students from the Professional School of Arts, Technologies, and Sports visited the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC). The visit began with a presentation by Professor Pedro Tomás, who discussed the areas of research, courses, and activities students can participate in.

Next, the students visited the modules on Electronic Systems and Networks and Computers.

In the first module, Professor Pedro Tomás explained the research process for a project aimed at restoring vision to blind individuals. In this case, the electronic systems are connected to the visual cortex of the brain, located at the back of the head.

In the second module, António Betencourt discussed the Internet of Things and how connections between sensors and actuators are built. He also demonstrated how a sensor detects an individual’s presence and sends an alert signal through the system.

The visit concluded with a group photo at the entrance of the North Tower.

The DEEC invites students and professors to visit the various available modules.
