The 2023 edition of the book "Women in Science" by Ciência Viva, launched today on International Women's Day, features Catarina Barata, ISR researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Invited Professor at DEEC.

"I was the girl who read textbooks on summer vacation. Even then, I loved learning new things and I still do. I was fascinated when I discovered that computers could learn too. Teaching a computer to analyze an exam as a doctor would do is very powerful. However, I don't see these “smart” machines as our substitutes. They are mathematical tools that can enhance new discoveries and revolutionize fields such as medicine".
