Agrupamento de Escolas Eduardo Gageiro came to learn about Elonica

On the 2nd, we received more than 40 students from the Eduardo Gageiro School Group. The visit started with a presentation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering by Professor Pedro Tomás, who spoke a little about the research areas in the different engineering fields at DEEC, as well as some of their practical applications. He also discussed the courses and extracurricular activities available, as well as the quality of teaching provided by the department’s faculty and the international recognition of the programs.
After the presentation, the students visited the modules on Electronic Systems and Networks and Computers.

In the first module, the students learned about the "Elonica" research project, which aims to restore vision to blind people by connecting an electronic system with a camera to the visual cortex (located at the back of the head).

The second module, presented by António Betencourt, demonstrated to the students the operation of various devices through the concept of IoT – the Internet of Things. They saw how it is possible to control a sensor that detects the proximity of objects using a mobile app.
The visit ended with a photo on the staircase of the North Tower.
DEEC invites students and faculty to visit the different available modules.
