Escola Digital participates in experiments with electromagnetic waves
On November 8th, the DEEC welcomed a visit from more than 30 students from the Digital School of Lisbon. The visit began with a presentation of the department, given by Professor António Grilo (from the Computer Science area). The students had the opportunity to learn about the courses, the department's areas of focus, student groups, and some related data, as well as clarify any doubts.
The students were divided into two groups to visit two modules: Networks and Computers, and Multimedia and Telecommunications.
The first module was presented by Professors António Grilo (in the left photo) and Paulo Pereira, where the topic "Internet of Things" was discussed. The students observed how an intruder is detected by a sensor and the subsequent emission of an audio signal.
During this module, they also learned how data from open-source software is transformed into an audio message.
In the Multimedia and Telecommunications module, the students participated in experiments led by Professor Carlos Fernandes, where they observed how electromagnetic waves travel between a transmitting antenna and a receiver, also transforming into an audio signal.
The visit ended with a group photo taken at the entrance of the building and with an invitation for more visits to the DEEC.
