DEEC Luncheon Seminar, by Catarina Barata and Sérgio Pequito

On May 29th, Wednesday, at 12:30 pm, a new session of the DEEC Luncheon will take place in the EA4 amphitheater of the North Tower. In this session we will have the opportunity to learn more about the research of two of DEEC's most recent faculty members, Catarina Barata and Sérgio Pequito.

"Integrating Human Knowledge and Values on Decision Systems for Healthcare", by Catarina Barata

Abstract: In this talk I will present my recent work on the enhancement of decision systems to achieve a better and more transparent interaction with humans. In particular, I will discuss how to train models that mimic human behavior and incorporate their feedback and preferences, following my publications on Nature Medicine and MICCAI.

"Advancing Neurostimulation: Real-Time Model-Based Control in Cyber-Neural Systems", by Sérgio Pequito

Abstract: This presentation introduces an approach to electrical neurostimulation for conditions like epilepsy and chronic pain, using real-time, closed-loop control with fractional-order systems. Unlike traditional static methods, our dynamic model-based strategy enhances the utilization of continuous neural data, improving prediction and adaptation to physiological changes. We employ model predictive control to increase robustness and adaptability. Validation results from in-silico studies demonstrate the potential of our method to advance the effectiveness of neurostimulation devices.

We count on your presence!
