The 2nd Edition of the Técnico Innovation Summit Will Feature the Participation of DEEC Faculty and Alumni

On February 3, starting at 10:00 a.m., the Técnico Innovation Center will host the Técnico Innovation Summit 2026. The event will bring together Research and Development Units, projects under the PRR and European programs, Técnico spin-offs, and Técnico’s Partner Network, in a one-day initiative dedicated to applied science, knowledge transfer, and technological entrepreneurship.

Throughout the day, several thematic panels and institutional sessions will take place, featuring the participation of faculty members and DEEC alumni. There will also be exhibition spaces for research units and companies, as well as an innovation arena showcasing prototypes.

Following the opening ceremony with Rogério Colaço, the Innovation Summit 2026 will host discussions on Advanced Materials, Circular Economy and Green Buildings, Digital Transition of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics, Health and Biotechnology, Sustainable Energy, and Smart Cities and Mobility.

At 11:30 a.m., the launch session “Lab2Market @Técnico2026” will take place, featuring testimonials from former participants, including Diogo Caetano, PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering and co-founder of FLASH Diagnostics.

At 1:00 p.m., the session “From Research to Impact: Collaborative Innovation Models” will include the participation of João Maciel, alumnus of Electrical and Computer Engineering and current Executive Director of EDP’s New R&D Center for New Energy Technologies; Alexandra Vilela, President of COMPETE 2030; and Rita Moura, representative of the Order of Engineers – Southern Region (OERS).

Next, at 2:00 p.m., the main stage will host the panel discussion “Sea, Air, Space, Defense and Security”, with professors Rodrigo Ventura, researcher at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR); João Fernandes, researcher at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IDMEC); and Carlos Fernandes, researcher at the Institute of Telecommunications (IT).

At 3:30 p.m., the panel “Digital Transition of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics” will feature Mário Figueiredo, researcher at IT; João Sousa, Coordinator of the Intelligent Systems Center at IDMEC; and Nuno Nunes, professor of Human-Computer Interaction at Técnico.

During the afternoon, the session “Leading Change – Intervention at TIS 2026” will also take place. The event will conclude with the “Meeting and Presentation of the New Strategy for the Técnico Spin-Off Community.”
