DEEC and IT sign a protocol with the Portuguese Communications Foundation

On June 1st, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Instituto de Telecomunicações, and the Portuguese Communications Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The event took place at the Communications Museum in Lisbon and was attended by Rogério Colaço, President of Técnico; Sérgio Pequito, Vice-President for Research, Development, and External Relations of DEEC; Marko Beko, DEEC faculty member and representative of the Telecommunications area; Raúl Moreira, President of the Executive Board; Fernando Marta, board member; Marta Cruz Machado, Director of the Museum; and Joana Alarcão, Director of Communication and PR at FPC.
This protocol aims to promote dialogue between FPC and Técnico. "At the Communications Museum, we are moving toward making our spaces and exhibition areas a welcoming place for classes," highlighted Joana Alarcão. In this regard, she emphasized that the Museum is available both to host initiatives promoted by the academic community and to receive technical curation for future exhibitions.

On the other hand, Joana Alarcão also highlighted the Museum's interest in supporting research by making part of its historical archive available and promoting potential internships, aiming to contribute to future innovation. As an example, she mentioned the work being developed at IT in the fields of quantum communications, submarine cables, and satellite communication.
I think it is very important to bring Técnico closer to the Communications Museum, because the history of communications also helps inspire innovation and the new generations of engineers.

Recently, the Telecommunications Museum hosted the NewSpace Winter School (a hackathon organized by Espaço ao Cubo students), the lecture "Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World," which featured Professor Rui Rocha, and the workshop "Quantum Communications and the Future of Secure Communications in Portugal," which included the participation of Professor Emmanuel Cruzeiro.
