FST Lisboa reveals Its latest prototype: The FST14

On June 18, Técnico’s Formula Student team unveiled the FST14 — its new high-speed electric vehicle — at the Grand Hall of the Alameda campus. This prototype, which will compete on tracks in Portugal, Spain, and Germany this summer, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.5 seconds with a driver — and in under two seconds in autonomous mode. It is the lightest car ever developed by the team.

The event featured remarks from Rogério Colaço, President of Técnico, who highlighted the team members’ resilience, leadership, perseverance, team spirit, and technical knowledge — skills acquired throughout their involvement with FST Lisboa. As a team specialized in building autonomous competition vehicles, he stressed that these are "qualities that can’t be taught in a classroom," but rather through real-world challenges.

Following a retrospective on the team’s 25-year history — from building its first car to participating in the electric and autonomous vehicle categories — Luís Sousa, Técnico professor, and Pedro Afonso, CEO of VINCI Energies (FST Lisboa’s main sponsor), took the stage to share memorable moments with the students over the years.

Next, Nuno Lynce, team leader, presented the upcoming competitions and emphasized that FST “doesn’t just build prototypes — it shapes people,” demonstrating the potential of Técnico’s engineering students.

Several team members also spoke, explaining the FST14’s development stages and the competition structure. Miguel Velo, Powertrain Department Lead, gave an in-depth explanation of the car’s electric systems, including both low- and high-voltage components.

After all the speeches, the full team was called onstage to be introduced, and the prototype was officially revealed to the audience.

Later, inside the Main Pavilion, attendees had the chance to explore all the team’s prototypes on display in the atrium and interact with members from different departments, who showcased the various systems and components of the car.

The day concluded with a live demo of speed and precision on track, held in the parking lot, marking the official start of the competition season.
