On September 12, Instituto Superior Técnico and Huawei formalized the signing of an agreement under the InTele Cooperation Protocol – An Initiative for Telecommunications. The main goal of this partnership is to attract more students to the telecommunications field and to improve the conditions for their academic journey.

During the ceremony, Técnico’s President, Rogério Colaço, emphasized that this type of initiative represents “a way to open Técnico to society and generate added value.” He also highlighted the long-standing collaboration between the institution and Huawei, a company that has been present in Portugal since 2004. Professor Luís Correia, faculty member at DEEC in the telecommunications scientific area, reinforced this idea, stressing the aim of offering “more attractive conditions for telecommunications students.”

The event also featured Wu Hao, CEO of Huawei Portugal, who stated that it was “an honor” to be at Técnico and that participating in such “initiatives and activities” is a way to “support Portugal, especially its universities.”

Since May 2022, Huawei has been an active partner in the InTele project, awarding a Merit Prize to the top student of the Master’s in Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering, as well as scholarships to support master’s dissertation work.

It is also worth noting that back in 2019, Técnico and Huawei signed another agreement aimed at supporting the training of engineers in the telecommunications field.
