On October 9, the student Gonçalo José Dias Pais successfully defended his thesis, “Getting into Shape: From 3D Pointwise Alignments to Surfaces through Geometry-Guided Neural Representations”, under the supervision of Professor Pedro Daniel dos Santos Miraldo, obtaining a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The defense took place in the Abreu Faro amphitheater.

The examination committee was chaired by Dr. Pedro Manuel Urbano de Almeida Lima, Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. The committee also included Dr. Nuno Miguel Mendonça da Silva Gonçalves, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra; Dr. Venu Madhav Govindu, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, India; Dr. José António da Cruz Pinto Gaspar, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico; and Dr. Pedro Daniel dos Santos Miraldo, Senior Researcher at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Cambridge, MA, USA.
