On September 17, João Carlos Cabrita Resende successfully defended his thesis, Authenticated Encryption of Memory Channels and Exploration of Ciphers’ Protection and Uses, supervised by Professor Ricardo Jorge Fernandes Chaves. The defense took place in lecture theatre PA-3, at the Alameda campus of Instituto Superior Técnico.

The jury was chaired by Dr. Paulo José da Costa Branco, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and comprised Dr. Paulo Alexandre Carreira Mateus, Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon; Dr. João Paulo de Castro Canas Ferreira, Associate Professor (with Habilitation) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto; Dr. Ricardo Jorge Fernandes Chaves, Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon; Dr. Tiago Miguel Braga da Silva Dias, Coordinating Professor at ISEL – Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, Polytechnic University of Lisbon; and Dr. Fernando Manuel Duarte Gonçalves, Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon.
