Université d’Évry Val d’Essonne visits DEEC laboratories

On May 12 and 13, we welcomed a group of students from Université d’Évry Val d’Essonne, who chose to visit the facilities of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) during their stay in Portugal. Over the course of two days, the students and professors visited several laboratories and asked various questions to DEEC faculty and researchers.

No dia 12, a visita iniciou-se com a apresentação do On May 12, the visit began with a presentation of the department by Professor Sónia Pinto, who spoke about DEEC’s research areas, academic programs, and extracurricular activities.

In the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics module, Professor Alberto Vale showcased some of the projects he is involved in and explained how nuclear fission can be used as an energy source.

The morning of the 12th concluded with the Multimedia and Telecommunications module, where Professor Custódio Peixeiro discussed the history of electromagnetic wave research and demonstrated some physical laws through hands-on experiments with the students.

The afternoon of the following day began with a visit to the quantum physics lab, where students learned how quantum physics can be applied to communication between two users.

Next, Professor Pedro Tomás, who presented the Electronic Systems module, introduced Elónica — a project aimed at restoring vision to blind individuals.

Finally, in the Energy and Sustainability module, students learned more about the potential applications of superconducting materials and observed electromagnetic induction experiments in the electrical machines lab.
