Escola do Comércio came to learn about robotics

On July 21, we welcomed a visit from students of the Escola do Comércio de Lisboa. The afternoon began with a presentation about the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) by Daniela Leonardo, who gave an overview of the research areas and fields of work of electrical engineers. She also shared some ongoing projects carried out by faculty members. During the session, students also learned about the academic programs offered and the student groups they may join in the future.

After the presentation, the students visited the Multimedia and Telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics modules.

In the Multimedia and Telecommunications module, the students learned about some concepts in quantum physics and how they can be applied to ensure more secure communication over the internet. The presentation featured Emmanuel Cruzeiro and members of the Quantum Photonics Laboratory from the Institute df Telecommunications.

In the second module, students discovered more about the research conducted at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, including the work of the SocRob@Home team, which participates in international competitions. They also had the chance to interact with the robot Bob, who acted as host in a simulated social gathering.

The visit ended with a group photo on the north tower staircase.
